Yesterday the Executive Board Members of the Student Nurses Association (SNA) met to discuss our plans for the next two months. All present members gave reports on past events, fundraising monies, and ideas for one last project for this year.
As Vice President, I had two new ideas I wanted to present to the board. For the past few months I have been working on securing graduation cords from the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) for graduating members of SNA who are also NSNA members. I feel that our graduating members deserve a special gift or token of appreciation for all their hard work this year. SNA was just getting started, and it took all of us to get it off the ground. All those who had an active part in it should be rewarded. These cords would be presented to us along with our nursing pin during our Academic Recognition Ceremony.
The SNA secretary and I also came up with a new program to promote and increase involvement in SNA for the coming years. Each year, the secretary would keep a record of all members who attend meetings, activities, and who donate items for SNA activities. At the end of the year, all those involved in a base line number of activities (decided by each board every year, depending on the number of activities, and events they plan), those members meeting the required attendances would receive a free gift/reward. Non-graduating students (pre, and 1st) would get something like free movie tickets, bowling tickets, key chain - just a little something like that. For graduating students, they would get the nursing metal. This would occur every year. Each year everyone would start with a new record and have the opportunities to get these gifts. It would be like a reward program for all active members, and encourage more activity from inactive students because they have an incentive for being involved. I also proposed that SNA pay for all or half of the cost of each gift, depending on our available funds.
I presented these new ideas to the SNA Executive Board and received positive votes from everyone. I will be consulting with the Treasurer to determine how much SNA can donate towards the cost of the cords and other gift. These new programs are scheduled to be presented at the next SNA meeting on April 2nd. It’s very exciting!
